What Happens While the People Are Sleeping

I have been told by more than one person that it's important to be patient when trying to capture photos of wildlife with a game camera.  Just like I promised to do in my last post, I left my camera in place and didn't mess with it at all ... for four whole days!  (This wasn't too difficult to do, since I was out of town during that time ... from Saturday morning until Tuesday night.)

This morning, I anxiously went to the barn to retrieve the memory card from the camera ... hoping that there had been some action for it to photograph.  I was not disappointed.

Here is a big fat groundhog.  (My camera takes color photos during the day, and infrared B&W photos at night.)

I got lots of photos of deer over the course of my absence.  Night #1 yielded these ...

Night #2 was very fruitful.

The camera only captured one photo on Night #3.  (Peek-a-boo!)

No deer on Night #4 ... but I got a pretty decent photo of a fox!

As I was walking to and from the camera, I noticed that some of the roses in one particular section of the Rose Field have been nibbled on by what I assume was deer.  I have the camera trained on that spot and the path that leads to it, so I hope to have evidence of the nibblers by the end of the week.  (Believe me, it's going to be really hard for me to leave the camera alone till then.)

  1. That is a lot of wildlife! Even in my little populated suburb we have lots of deer and rabbit problems... They eat most of my rose buds the little buggers!

  2. The deer have left my roses alone, but ate my willow tree until they killed it. I was so mad since I planted it the year my son was born.

  3. These photos are so cool that I'm tempted to get a game camera to see if I can capture a photo of our elusive and shy grey fox friends. I love that you caught a photo of one!

  4. I need to go out and check my hostas, I know they have been out there. Fishing line is up around the back rose bed, otherwise I don't see my namesake rose bloom. They are getting braver and closer to the house, munching on tulips...so annoying! Have fun out in the garden today for me! :)

  5. Great photos. It is difficult to resist checking every morning, isn't it?

  6. I should set a camera in Page 10 to see just what all those dang squirrels are up to, when they break in.
They leave footprints all over, and usually leave a walnut somewhere naughty as their calling card.

  7. I understand it is difficult not to check every morning, so exciting who have visited your garden at night. The groundhog looks pretty. May be the same deer comes back every night and the fox, he looks so cute.......

  11. So much fun to capture all those critters! I know we must have similar action in our backyard with deer tracks, and sometimes a feeder is pull over. Who knows who does that!!
