I took the photo below in 2006 at Caravati's (a fabulous architectural salvage yard in Richmond), and published it in THIS blog post from January of last year. I love the details of this beautiful piece of a shingle cottage just as much now as I did when I first saw it ... maybe more now. The shingles, the shutters, and the delicate touch of gingerbread is completely perfect!
This past fall, while The Husband and I were at Caravati's hunting for a window to use to finish the north wall of my greenhouse, I happened upon the same piece ... now deteriorating and forgotten in a far corner of the yard. It made me sad.
All it needed in 2006 was some scraping and a coat or two of paint. I'm sure it would take a lot more work to for someone to be able to use it now. Fortunately for me, all I needed it for was inspiration ... and photos can do this quite nicely.
Such a shame.

Oh how sad--- don't you just hate when your best intentions don't get to be fulfilled? This is a magnificent piece of salvage-- I do hope you can find a unique way to use it--- I can see why you loved it so much!!

SOmeone might still want a wack at the old piece. Hubby just threw out wood from the old house....projects unrealized....sad but now its cleaned up and I'm a happy girl.

How terribly sad to see something so beautiful, languish and deteriorate, unloved, without a proper home.

That is sad. It's like watching a lovely old empty home deteriorate. I hate that too! The weathered pop of color on the shutters was just perfect--and that gingerbread!
So hard to see something like that falling apart. :(
Knowing me...I'd find someway of talking Hubby into dragging the dilapidated one home and rebuilding it! lol!

If you and I had found that piece together..we would have hauled that baby home. Just gorgeous! Love everything about it...just like you said. I can picture it as the front of a tiny cottage retreat like Sandy Foster's My Shabby Streamside Studio.
Such a shame that it sits there unloved.
