Sunday Snapshot ... Checking on the Doves in the Greenhouse

Mr. and Mrs. Birdbrain Mourning Dove are the proud parents of twins!  I have been a good girl and I have left this nest completely alone since I noticed it last month ... it's been killing me, I tell ya.  The other day, curiosity got the better of me and I set up my ladder to take a quick peek.  This is what I saw:

Judging from their size, it's not going to be long before these babies leave the nest.  Mama and Papa have been going in and out of the greenhouse easily, so I have no reason to believe that it won't be the same for the babies when it's time for them to fly.  I will keep an eye out till then, just in case I need to perform another rescue .

  1. It would be killing me, too. I'd want to get up there every five minutes to see how they're doing. :)

    1. When startled, the parents fly into the greenhouse's windows before figuring out where the door is ... concern for their well being has helped me resist the urge to peek at the babies. Also, I've never had doves like this before, so I didn't know what type of parents they'd be. Didn't want to disturb them and possibly cause them to abandon ship.

    1. I just looked up jackdaws, because we don't have them. They look to be similar to our crows ... which I love! I'll bet their babies look like little dinosaurs.

  3. It's nice to know that they have a guardian angel!

    1. I love all the critters that we have here! The bird babies are sort of like feathered grandchildren.

  4. I'm surprised you haven't put your camera in there!

    1. The nest is in a difficult spot, ten feet up. If I could have figured out a way to put the camera up near there, I probably would have done it. You know me well!

  5. Great shot of the new ones. I know you'll be glad for them to 'fly the coop/greenhouse' so that you can have your space back. Mom and Dad picked a safe place for their nest.

    1. Took that photo by holding my iPad over my head. I will check on the babies again later today. I'll bet they're gone now. Bird babies grow so fast!

  6. Feathered friends! I have a robin nest perched on the exact top of the grapevine wreath hanging on my garage. Mama has been so flighty I have no idea what's going on up there, and I'm afraid a ladder and a peek would put her off her nest. It's exciting enough just to know they're there!
