Thirty Days of Mr. Rogers ... Day Four

Mr. Rogers says, "Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person.  There have been so many stories about the lack of courtesy, the impatience of today's world, road rage and even restaurant rage.  Sometimes all it takes is one kind word to nourish another person.  Think of the ripple effect that can be created when we nourish someone.  One kind empathetic word has a wonderful way of turning into many."

Ruby and Winnie joined me on the glider on our messy back porch while the weather was warm one afternoon last week.

Me:  I have an exercise that I do with myself this time of year, as Christmas decor appears in the stores.  I do whatever I can do to be the nicest customer of the day to any store employees that I encounter.  Whether it's a compliment or a particularly sincere Thank You (with eye contact), I believe that little things like this make a difference.  I know it makes a difference in how I feel.

During the month of November, I plan to share wisdom from Mr. Rogers with you each day (from the book "The World According to Mr. Rogers") ... Mr. Rogers's words accompanied by everyday images from life here at Hartwood Manor ... this place that I am blessed to call HOME.

  1. That's a lovely idea, and one we should practice all year long! I think that is why I like my blogger friends (like you) so much - they share, they compliment, they commiserate - they are just genuinely nice people!

  2. I try to do that, too, Connie. I often randomly thank people for their hard work behind the scenes. It often results in HUGE smiles-the best pay-off of all! xo Diana

  3. I love the photos you put with these snippets!!

I couldn't ask for better or kinder neighbours. I have a neighbour who lived next door to me for 3 years and moved to another part of town. The husband still comes back with his snowblower whenever we have a huge dump of snow and clears my driveway. Can you believe it?! So sweet...

    Have a happy day!

  4. I always do my best reward good service. I'm quick to judge bad service. I know that about myself. And i think its because my entire working life was customer service. I gave good service so i expect good service when i'm the customer.

Good customer service often goes unrecognized and i try , like you especially this time of year to sincerely show my appreciation. I get names and send notes to management.... I just make that little extra effort. Love your Mr.Rogersism. :) Hugs! deb

  7. Kind words are sometimes just what a person needs in their life.

Service workers are so often treated like they are slaves to meet every wish and demand. I'm always amazed at how kind they can be when others treat them so badly.

My DH and I tried to say a heartfelt thank you to all who we came in contact with who did/do things for us. We know firsthand what it was like to be in their shoes.

Thank you again for these gems on how to treat others and the adorable photos that go along with each post.

    Love & Hugs ~ FlowerLady
