I park my car at the farthest point in the park, at the bottom of a hill by the lake. That way, the beginning of our walk is uphill, and we go downhill on the way back to the car.
We saw geese and swans on the lake yesterday. (Discovered that the HDR setting on my iPhone isn't all that great in bright sunlight for things that are moving.)
Weird double image of swans
A mixed flock of geese.
Mama and Papa Canada Geese, with four goslings.
Millions of tiny tadpoles at the edge of the lake.
The park has a well-maintained nature trail that winds through the woods on both sides of the road. The one side is fairly sunny (and has more poison ivy on the edge of the path than I'm comfortable with.). We took the shadier path down the hill and back to the car.
It feels really good to get out in the sunshine and work up a sweat like that. Ruby seems to enjoy these walks as much as I do. (I will let you know when I get to the point where I can scale that hill more easily.)
I loved walking when I lived in the Bay Area because I not only had a neighborhood with sidewalks, I also had nearby access to Shoreline Park. I loved it. I don't really have a good place to walk here unless I drove to the coast.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like both a relaxing and reenergizing walk, Connie. As I tell my wife and daughter, though, please be extra viligent when you are walking a repeated pattern; notice cars and people that are there more than two days in a row and then start noticing unusual cars that usually aren't there and don't appear to have an owner; stay aware of your surroundings and especially behind you. And carry at least a whistle and pepper spray. It's crazy,I know. I grew up walking miles of woods and railroad tracks and never thought a thing about it, but these days I worry about anyone walking alone, especially on a predictable pattern or time.
ReplyDeleteOur road is pretty good for walking, but my feet never hold me from beginning to end of the walk and if we go the hilly route my knees scream at me. Endurance? Nope, not me.
ReplyDeleteBailey and I have to drive to a park, too. We are also on a very busy road.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I know you have a partner who can log endless miles :)
ReplyDeleteI love that scenery, but gawd... I hate to sweat!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, I'm walking my dogs too and can walk to a park. Your walk looks so beautiful. Still love Ruby stories!
ReplyDeleteOh My, I love your "walk" I also live in the country,,My favorite walk is to the park..It has a pond with much wild life.I haven't walked there in a long time..You just talked me into taking up that walk again... Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great day. The little ones tadpole obsession has given him his first tiny frog. I think the little frog has better care than most babies. They are fun to watch grow.
