Amy went to Heaven yesterday. Dr. Stamp was wonderful, crying right along with us. Amy slipped away, peacefully and relaxed ... finally free.
I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of comfort that my friends have offered. The phone calls and the emails have really helped. My favorite came from Karen. She said, "You are giving Amy a peaceful end. She won't know what you know. Feel the peace you are giving her." This is what I do for my critters. They love me unconditionally, and I sacrifice myself to give them peace.
Let me tell you the story of how Amy got her name. When we found her in the barn as a tiny kitten, she was too young for us to bring her home. We had to leave her there, but I was afraid that she would turn feral like her mom. Every few days for three weeks, I visited the barn where she lived. I would catch her and sit in my car with her, and pet her and talk to her, and she would scream and cry almost the whole time. I remembered when our oldest daughter was in preschool, there was a little girl named Amy who cried at school every morning ... what a perfect name for a little kitten who also cried.
There is a beautiful new cat angel in Heaven today.
Hug your fur-kids.

I am so so sorry. I know how it hurts to let them go. Now Amy and Rusty are playing together as two of the new kids on the block.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for you and your family, but you know you have made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your sweet Amy. I didn't know she was ill, I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to read many blogs. I have a cat that looks just like one of yours and she is elderly. Every day is precious when you know their days are limited. My heart breaks for you with your already heavy load. Prayers and hugs coming your way.

Connie,
ReplyDeleteIt's always so difficult to let them go. Anyone who has lost a dear pet knows this too well. I'm so sorry.

Oh Connie I am so sorry. After just having been there myself I know how difficult it must have been. We love them so much and it is so hard to let them go but I know you did the right thing and she is resting peacefully now. Sending you my love and lots of hugs. ~Meghan
ReplyDeleteHugs and much love to you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sending caring thoughts to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, as someone who grew up in a home that often took in stray animals, and have lost a few in recent years, just wanted to say I'm thinking of you. Read your story over at Low Tide High Style. Not that it feels the hole they leave, but Amy couldn't have left under better circumstances. With people who love her, into a peaceful sleep, after having a life filled with love and the best care possible. I'm so thankful for all the pro-active animal lovers the world over.

Hi Connie,
ReplyDeleteI too was visiting Kat and had to stop by and add my condolences on the loss of your sweet Amy. At times like this, the right words are hard to find, but please know that the thoughts and prayers of those who love and cherish their pets, both those with us and those waiting for us, are with you during your time of grief.
The decision to let our pets go, to end their suffering, I believe, is the most difficult one many of us have to make. We miss our dear companions so much and, only the passing of days will ease the pain and sweeten the memories. I am so sorry.....
I'm so very sorry..the ultimate kindness of letting them go is so terribly hard.
ReplyDeleteConnie..
ReplyDeleteMy three furbabies and I are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers over the loss of your sweet, beautiful Amy..

Your entries about Amy remind me of this snippet from a poem. I always try to keep this quote in mind whenever I loose a loved one.
Your story of Amy brought me to tears. She was a precious and beautiful cat. I, too, have lost dear pet cats, and it is very difficult. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Amy. I am sure she has found a soft and fluffy cloud in heaven to take her naps.
ReplyDeleteCame over from Kat's. I am so sorry that you are going through this difficult loss of Amy.
ReplyDeleteAll of us that love our animals and consider them family know such losses are inevitable, and cherish the few short years we share our lives with them.

ReplyDeleteI am SO sorry about Amy. I know how hard it is for people who love their animals like their children to lose or let them go. She was a beautiful cat who had a great home and family!
ReplyDeleteSniff. So sad. XXXX
ReplyDeleteShe is at Rainbow Bridge, as you said, out of pain. I am sitting here with my old man petting him and cherishing every moment. It's all we can do.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your sweet cat...I read the post all about her...you were blessed to be in each other's lives. I really believe we will meet up with our special pets in heaven one day... I came over from Low Tide High Style and am a new follower...XO
ReplyDeleteOh dear. Sorry but really it's for the best. I would never want one of my little friends to suffer.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry.. I have a beloved, blind 17 year old cat. He has always been an outside cat until recently I found him on the roof one morning. Needless to say, he's now officially an indoor cat. The hardest part was teaching him to use a litter box (he felt my house plants were a better, more natural bathroom)! I had to fill the litter box with dirt then eventually switch it over to kitty litter. We all love him so much and I can't imagine not having him. Thanks for sharing your memories of your special Amy.
ReplyDeleteI came over from Kat's also to offer my condolences on the loss of Amy. On June 8th last year, I love my beloved dog Sheldon. He was also 14 and also had cancer. I made the same hard decision you did, to end his suffering. I miss him everyday.
ReplyDeleteYour tribute to Amy is beautiful, it's always so nice to see someone else who understand the way I feel — their not pets, their family!
Deepest sympathy on your loss.
Amy was a beautiful cat and obviously very much loved.
ReplyDeleteI read this sad news over at Kat's and I just had to come over and tell you how sorry I was to hear. Amy's pictures are so sweet, what a beautiful cat she was. ~Lili
