House Finches are trying to build a nest in the wreath on our front door. Alice and Dorothy brought this to my attention earlier this morning.
I will be taking down the wreath today. It isn't the cozy nesting spot that the birds think it is.

I've had birds build a nest in places that were not great for raising a family! Love the photo of the kitties.
ReplyDeletehugs,

I had two concerns: (1) I'd open the front door, which opens IN, and birds would bolt out of the nest and be inside the house. Didn't want them injured. (2) House Finches are terrible house keepers. Their babies poop over the side of the nest and make a huge mess. I definitely didn't want that on my front door.
DeleteThank you for this post.
ReplyDeleteFirst big smile of my day!

I find that it's hard NOT to smile when looking at cats. :)
DeleteAlice and Dorothy are going to lose their entertainment when you remove that wreath ;)
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of other things around here to entertain them. They have already moved on and are focusing their attention to the ladybugs that are in the house.
DeleteGlad the girls notified you!
ReplyDeleteCats are quite helpful, in their own way.
DeleteCute photo. The finches 'thought' they had a good thing going.

You will be pleased to know that the Finches now appear to be building a nest underneath our front porch (which is quite high and can be accessed from the basement). I see them there when I go downstairs, but I can't tell where the nest is.
DeleteThe birds took the makings of the Easter wreath my D.I.L. had on her door and made a nest. Sort of aggravating.
ReplyDeleteLove your picture of the kitties.
They picked your wreath apart? These birds were using the wreath as cover, and were beginning to put their twigs into the center of the wreath when I found them ... more correctly, when Alice and Dorothy alerted me to their presence. No great loss about my wreath. It was the one from Christmas that I made at Monticello, and it's looking pretty shopworn and shabby ... and not in a good way.
DeleteThat's a great photo!
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to take photos like this with Alice and Dorothy in residence! I never know exactly what they're up to.
