Two by Two

Tomorrow is Wedding Day!  We have spent this whole week working on the remaining items on our never-ending To Do list.  Fortunately, no one seems to have lost sight of the joyous nature of this day that we are preparing for, and we are doing what we can to enjoy the process.

This wedding of our youngest daughter, adds another link to the chain that is our family.  Marriage is the foundation of family ... and I cannot help but think about the weddings and the families that came together to make THIS wedding possible.

John Harvey Carothers and Celinda Elizabeth (Lizzie) Armstrong
Wedding Day, 1903
My Great-Grandparents
(Our daughter will have my Great Grandmother's wedding ring tied to her bouquet, as her 'something old')

Fannie Viola Carothers and Garland Aubrey Floyd
My Grandparents

The Husband's Parents

My own wedding.
1980

I have many of photos of wedding preparations so far, and I expect to take many more in the next few days.  There is so much happening, and so much to record, and I want to share it all.

We have what looks like a circus tent in our pasture, where the reception will take place.

The pavilion under the pecan tree will be the most beautiful ceremony site.

There are buckets and buckets of flowers sitting on the deck waiting to become arrangements later today.

Don't let me forget to show you the ring-bearer pillows I made.

... and, of course, there's the DRESS!!

This wedding brings together our daughter and a wonderful young man ... and it has brought our entire family together to celebrate ... and celebrate it, we shall.

Do you happen to know if your great grandparents had Scottish ancestry? I suspect that John Harvey Carothers, is a variation on the Borders family name Carruthers. I too am a descendant of that line. Also Armstrong is another local Border name. I can tell tou a lot about the Carruthers if you would like me to, it may mean we are very distantly related!

Thank you for the good wishes!

Sue, dear, your email isn't visible and I would love to give you a huge, long description of the details of my family tree, but not here in the Comments. In short, these are my Scottish relatives and they had been in America for generations before the union of the Carrothers and Armstrong families in what was then Oklahoma Territory. I would love to compare notes with you.

Much love and good wishes on your daughters wedding day :) I carried my late grandfathers gold anchor pendant (He was a navy man) tied to my bouquet - it's nice to have a piece of the past with you as you walk down the aisle...

I love your great-grandmother's sweet, almost secret, smile. So unusual for the era! The good-humored nature seems to have passed along, judging by the subsequent generations' photos.
How wonderful and rare to have such lovely visual records of your antecedents. A true family treasure.
best wishes for the Big Day.

I will try and sort our my e-mail connection and then we can swap notes. I have some good photos of the Carruthers homeland and have met the current head of the family, who is the 13th Laird.

How lucky you are to have all those wonderful photos. And what joy they promise. Our youngest daughter was married in our rose garden 16 years ago and the day was perfect in every single way.

How fortunate you are to still have all those family wedding photos. Congratulations to your daughter.
