Winnie

Winnie went to Mexico yesterday afternoon.

Her little old-dog body just gave out.  My husband and I decided that it was best to send her on her way.

My heart is broken.  Grief is as deep as the love that she and I shared, and right now it's pretty overwhelming.

RIP, and vaya con Dios, Bitty Dog.

  8. Aww, I am so sorry. Some dogs are just in such perfect harmony with us that when their spirits leave us it's devastating. I hope you will sense her presence around you in the days to come, as she checks in from time to time from MexicoHeaven to see how her favorite person is doing.

  10. As you well know, they never, ever really leave us. They simply wait patiently, just out of sight, for us to some day join them in snuggles and play once again.

She will be missed by all, but I can't imagine the hole in your heart without her visible, palpable presence.

    Big hugs to you, dear!

  20. Connie, I am so sorry to read this.... I truly felt like I've lost one of my own dogs. And, telling you "I'm sorry" about Winnie's loss doesn't begin convey the sadness that I'm feeling for you, and all of those like me who loved her and are sharing her loss with you. You were truly her "angel" who opened your heart and home to her when she needed someone the most. Your love, kindness and compassion truly made a difference for her in the final chapters of her life. I know you aren't feeling any regrets in welcoming Winnie into your life, and I know you would do it again if you could. I hope you are finding comfort in your memories of Winnie that can never be taken away, and in knowing that you will see her again one day. Again, I truly am sorry for the loss of this little girl - Thank you again for the wonderful life you gave her, she will be missed and not forgotten.

  23. Your sweet Winnie was as lucky to have you, as you were to have her. We know time heals some, but we are left with a permanent piece of broken heart for all our lost fur babies. So sorry for your loss and heartbreak.

  24. Dear Connie, so sorry to hear about sweet little Winnie's passing... The loss of a beloved pet is always a tragedy, and as much as they give us utter joy when they are around, they give us utter grief when they go. May you find comfort in the fact that Winnie and you were so lucky to have crossed paths, bonded and brightened up each other's lives ever since!

This sweet pup will always hold that special place within your heart - and our hearts too! She will be around you in spirit and - rest assured - you will meet again in the afterlife. Take care. x

  29. Somehow I missed this and I'm so sad to read about little Winnie leaving. I always had smiles when you shared her with us. What a lucky girl she was to have a wonderful home, and how lucky you were to be her person for a while. I'm sure she is young and healthy again, and just as feisty as ever. Rest in peace, little Winnie. You were adored by many, including me.

  31. Oh my goodness! I just stumbled on this post about little Winnie's passing (I thought I had subscribed to your blog posts but apparently not, as I haven't been receiving them & had no idea). My heart absolutely aches for you all and I have tears streaming down my face. It was such a short time after we exchanged comments on her "Gotcha Day" anniversary that she crossed the rainbow bridge.....nothing prepares us to give up our beloved furbabies....but your decision to let her go was the most loving thing you could do, while also being the most gut-wrenching. I will hug my sweet Carson even closer tonight and I send prayers up for all of you! RIP, dear Winnie......
