Feeling Sad About "noreply-comment@blogger.com"

Thank you for all of the comments that you left on my last post about this year's first roses in the garden.  I appreciate each and every kind word that you take the time to leave behind during your visit.  Each comment is a gift, and I am thankful that you choose to spend time on my little slice of the Internet.

I try to send a private email reply to most of the comments that I receive.  (depending on what else is going on, sometimes I'm better about this than other times.)  Six of the comments I received on that last post were from lovely readers who may or may not know that their email addresses are not visible in their profile.  I always return the favor and visit blogs in exchange ... sometimes finding treasures that I continue to return to again and again.  Honestly, though, it's still not the same as being able to share a private conversation with someone ... via email, that is.

Preaching to the choir?  Beating a dead horse?  I still have to give this a shot, in case I can reach just ONE blogger and help them build their network and their friendships.

Do you know if you are a No Reply blogger?  If you are on Blogger, here's how to check.

1.  Click on the "B" icon at the top of your blog home page.

2.  Click on the icon in either corner of the Blogger overview page to access your profile.

3.  Click the orange 'Edit Profile' button.

4.  Check the box that says, "Show my email address".

5.  Scroll to the bottom of that page, click "Save Profile".

That's all there is to it!  (If you use another blogging service and do not have a Blogger Profile, I know there are ways to do this, I just don't know what they are.)

I make this plea at least twice a year, usually when I receive a frustratingly large number of comments that I cannot reply to.  I know that some of you may have consciously chosen to not reveal your email address ... it's your email and your choice and I respect that.  Others, and I have found this to be the majority of no reply bloggers, don't realize that this is the case for them.  (This is especially true for new bloggers.)

Make this change and I guarantee that your blogging experience will be a richer one. For me, direct email contact has led to online and real-live-in-person friendships that I would not have otherwise.

Now go check your profile and let me know what you find.

  1. You were the first to point this out to me, and I'm so glad you did!! It's so nice to get an e-mail response to a comment, and as a blogger, it's nice to know that they will actually see your reply.

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. Done! Had no idea my e-mail did not show. I only know the basics and have been trying to teach myself more. Just don't have the time to spend playing on the computer because I am working on one all day! Thanks Carol

  3. I've been getting so many no reply blogger comments recently, even from commenters who have been with me for years and never had that setting before. I find it odd and am going to their blogs and letting them know so they can make the change. I am wondering if this is a Blogger glitch lately.

  4. Agreed. Frustrating. Now I'll go check mine.

  5. I think I have mine set right -- I recently switched to Squarespace as my host, but still use Google to blog surf. Thanks for the reminder!

  6. Yeah, I don't get why I come up as a no reply blogger. Every place I check through my blog---nothing shows me this. It verifies all my info and looks it should show my email--?
Thank goodness we've emailed enough around thAt issue!

ps~I'll go back and get you that metal box/saw---just say the word!

  8. I've noticed some of the larger blogs that aren't new, have gone to no reply. Guess they're so big they no longer want to be bothered.

BTW... EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONS... step by step, with photos!

  9. You are right about the e-mail address. I used to have my e-mail address visible, but I have to tell you that I was getting some really, really ugly and hateful and hurtful comments from someone, so I changed the setting, and now I no longer allow 'anonymous' comments on my blog--I'm going to try it again, and see what happens and hope that those that were lurking around have grown tired of harassing me. Paws crossed! :-)

  10. Part of the problem is blogger when dealing with Wordpress users. I'm on WP and have this problem all of time, more recently! I have been commenting using my Google account and that seems to work, I just don't like the solution!

  11. Hi Connie, Guilty as charged! Thanks for letting me know, I've fixed it. Love your posts.

  12. Ah, Connie, another post showing your true nature of giving and teaching. I am so happy Deborah led me to you. Both of you are always anxious to share knowledge. For those not wanting their long standing email addresses to show on blogger there are many free email sites. I use gmail and find it easy to navigate for both blogging responses and pinterest. The weekend is almost here. Did you get everything done you wanted to?

  13. It is frustrating when the links don't work too. People leave their name, but in most cases, there are a lot of viewers with the same first name and I never know which one they are. I have most problems with "Karens".

  14. Ha, my WP Id did not work. I had to use Google and I bet you don't get the email address from that. Maybe others are having the same problem.

  15. Hi dear-- I really appreciate you sharing this with your readers-- I have the same situation. It upsets me so much when my readers ask a question-- and I can't reply to them. Thank you for sharing the step by step process!

You know I love your rosé photos-- your photography is always so stunning--

  16. I know exactly what you mean, Connie. I try to reply to all of the comments left on my blog, too...but it's not always possible. :( I'm not sure if the bloggers have "no reply" chosen on purpose or not, but it can be frustrating when you want to write a thank-you note to them! :) Thanks for getting the word out today!

  17. Thanks for this tip. Suzy at Rustic Vintage Country alerted me to the fact that I had this setting and I didn't even know! I've followed your instructions and it's worked. I have no problems with sharing my email as it's the one connected to the blog. I also have a private email which I use for all domestic things and non blogging friends and family. So works perfectly.

    You are a blessing.
