Two strings of icicle Christmas lights hung on cup hooks along the top of the south wall. It's so cute!
I already had the cup hooks and lights. All I had to buy was a remote wall switch to control them.
This is the handiest thing ever for adding a light switch anywhere you need one.
You can find it HERE.
The greenhouse itself is a mess, with lots of stored building materials and project items taking up most of the 12' x 20' space. I have cleared a bit of sanity space on the south bench to over-winter the baby roses that I rooted last summer, and I'm doing what I can to make order out of the rest of the space ... sorting, purging, and figuring out what to do with items I really love and will use.
This will be a great space to work in during the winter, as the temperature in the building on a sunny day is easily twenty or more degrees above the outside temperature. It can be cold and wintry outside, shirt-sleeve weather inside ... just what my little sunshine-loving self needs!

I love the greenhouse - and the lights make it look magical!
ReplyDeleteIcicle lights look strangely perfect in my weird greenhouse ... magical is a good way to put it. Thanks!
DeleteI love it! Magical for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda!
DeleteLovely. Thanks for the tip on the light switch too.
ReplyDeleteI love this light switch. It's really handy for controlling a light when a normal wired switch isn't possible.
DeleteThat greenhouse is full of character!
ReplyDeleteCharacter is one way to put it. :)
DeleteI LOVE your greenhouse!
ReplyDeleteI bought a bunch of discounted lights after Christmas last year and I'm gonna string them around the backyard and now I'm gonna do it with cup hooks! Thank you!
And that remote switch? I never knew it existed! OMG! I'm getting one for above my sink!
Thank you, Thank you!
:D :D :D
A big package of cup hooks is so cheap. I use them for lots of things.
DeleteThe remote switch is incredible for controlling anything that is plugged into an electrical outlet. Except power tools, according to the instructions in the package. Who would do that?
What a great greenhouse and I love the way it looks from the outside all lit up like that! It's perfect. Have fun purging and sorting this winter. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI would say that the greenhouse is my little hide-out, but it's mostly glass and there's not much hiding to be done in there.
DeleteYou're the queen of purging and sorting, and I am going to work hard to make you proud.
You've got the coolest greenhouse! The lights are icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne. You make me blush.
DeleteI love you greenhouse and know you will be really enjoying it this winter, so will your baby roses. :-) That switch for lights looks like a great invention.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fall ~ FlowerLady
That switch is the coolest thing ... relatively cheap, too.
DeleteHiding in the greenhouse in winter, in the warmth sunshine, is winter therapy for me. I didn't use it last year, and I could tell a difference in my mood.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing about the light switch too!
ReplyDeleteThis remote light switch is the handiest thing EVER!
DeleteTruly lovely results, Connie, Magical is exactly the right word for the effect, and I'm intrigued by the remote switch!
ReplyDeleteShirley
Just enough light to see if I have to go out to the greenhouse after dark in the evening, and a cost-effective way to do it. Looks like Christmas, too! Thanks, Shirley.
DeleteIt's lovely! The prettiest greenhouse ever.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh ... you're so sweet! Thank you!
DeleteConnie, I love this effect. It makes your greenhouse look like an enchanted place. Some plants grow/flower differently based upon hours of light. Professional greenhouses use this to manipulate the effect they want (taller or shorter stems/delayed or advanced time of blooming). But I have never heard this about roses, so you shouldn't need to take that into consideration. You can just make magic, and you have done exactly that.
ReplyDeleteAll of this would be a consideration if this was a production greenhouse, but it's not. It's sole purpose now is to provide shelter for tender young roses, and (hopefully) keep them from freezing and dying during the winter. These lights are only for illumination to see after dark, not for the benefit of growing the roses.
DeleteI'm amazed at commercial operations that have light, water, fertilizer, growth regulators, etc., down to such a science, and can manipulate their crops so precisely. I'm not one of those growers. :)
