The Gardener, All Dressed For Work.

My husband and I have been working on the Rose Field, to free it from the neglect and overgrowth of the past four years.  With the roses in a large section of this garden located and moved elsewhere, I set my husband loose to mow with his DR walk-behind bush hog.

Our next door neighbor saw all the commotion and came over to get a closer look ... "I have to get a picture of this," he said.  "Go stand over there."

Just for fun, here is a video of my husband and his bush hog cutting a few passes of brush.  It's a very powerful machine that makes quick work of saplings and brambles ... and I think that the operator is pretty awesome!

We have about one-fourth of this garden cleared.  For now, we will  keep it mowed so it doesn't grow up and get out of hand again. I hope to eventually redesign it and turn it back into a rose garden, and I am doing my best to be satisfied with what seems like small accomplishments and baby steps ... as we work our way through this huge garden whenever time allows and weather is favorable.

  1. A friend yelled for her husband when she found a rattle snake in their garden, he calmly arrived and shot it dead, 1 bullet. But that's not why she told the story. She told him, with the snake newly dead, he had never been sexier to her EVER. Their gardening ended for the day !

Hope you had fun with Mr. Sexy Butt !!

    1. We had a similar snake discovery at our house with a Copperhead last year ... but the weapon of choice was a bulb planter (was what we had handy). I love the ending to your story!

  2. I have seen those DR advertised on TV, so they really do what they claim. Neat!

    1. They really do!! We got a super deal on it at an estate sale shortly after we bought this place, and it has been the most useful tool ever!

    1. I made a strong impression on a daughter's suitor years ago, while wearing camouflage when he came to the house and met me for the first time. Comfy, and lots of pockets!

  4. I LOVE my DR. (Well it's my grandmothers, but she's 92 and we don't let her use it anymore!!) Mine is a little smaller, and doesn't have such a long deck in front, but it's great for my wild blackberries, and makes quick work of the ivy growing over my paths!

Congratulations on all of your progress, I'm a big fan of baby steps. :)

    1. I think I remember you mentioning your grandmother's DR. That long front deck is the detachable bush hog attachment. We also have the snow blower and a finish mower. Great estate sale bargain for a seriously useful-in-all-seasons piece of equipment!

  5. You look great per usual, Connie! You guys are really something to be that productive in this heat and humidity! Had to show my hubby your hubby and his bush hog mower. He's always wanted one for our mountain property so he loved seeing it in action. ;-)

  6. You look cute in your garden attire! I'm amazed that you guys are out there in the heat. I have to be out around 7 in the morning and in by 10. It's horrible right now. We had heat warnings the other day until 8 p.m. It was in the high 90's and felt like it was 105.

That bush hog mower is great in action. You two are doing a fantastic job.

    1. We had a few days over the weekend and at the beginning of the week where temperatures were unusually low for July ... THAT'S when we were out there working so hard. Now that true July has settled in, we are back to working only in the cool of the morning and chasing the shade after that.
