Beetle Season

Every year, I try to remember to document the day when I find the first Japanese Beetle in my garden.  For 2016, that day is today.

This is a portrait of the nasty bugger, taken right before I squished it.

    1. Ugh, is right. The Biblical plague of locusts was probably Japanese Beetles.

  2. I've never seen one before ... for such a horrible insect, they're actually quite pretty. Good you squished him though. ;)

    1. You remember well! I imagine that I will have to get to it with my Bucket of Death some time next week.

    1. I try keep to my 'live and let live' policy, but I can't do that with Japanese Beetles. Since nothing has evolved to prey on them, that has to be my job.

    1. Nasty demons is right! Eat, breed, eat, breed, over and over, in plague-like proportions. My Bucket of Death is a great way to deal with the problem in the garden, and my anger at the damage they cause. Die, you nasty buggers, die!

    1. This one wasn't eating yet, it was tucked into that flower. I think the hole was caused by something that bit the bud before it opened.
