I Want Alpacas!

Everyone who knows me knows that I really want alpacas.  Things around here right now don't put me in the proper place to have them, however.  Rats!

Starting this nursery has monopolized much more of my time than I thought it would.  There are still 300+ roses in pots that must find a permanent place in gardens yet to be created.  Our house, while liveable, still has a lot of renovation work to be done.  All of this requires time and energy, which would take away from the attention that I could give to my little alpacas-to-be.

As much as it kills me to admit it, I have to be a grown up and wait until things settle down a bit before I can add alpacas to the family... or anything else, for that matter.  I'm fortunate that I can go visit my friend Robert and live vicariously through his guys.  Aren't they adorable?

They're so CUTE!

  1. You have grabbed at my heart here! I LOVE alpacas and drool after them. On Ravelry, I co-started a group called 'Spit N Spin, for people that work with homespun camelid fibers. On there, I started a thread asking people to post photos of baby alpacas. One person posted the entire birth! Out here, in New England, you can agist your alpacas on an alpaca farm. I spin with their luscious fiber.
Once, I took a severely emotionally disturbed 6 year old girl to the alpaca open house. they let her lead walk a young one, and she did great! She was in heaven with 6 or 7 alpacas eating out of her hand, all surrounding her! They are so gentle!

  3. Robert's alpacas are Suris, which are my favorites. They WERE eating out of our hands yesterday.

Don't even get me started on spinning and knitting their fiber. **swoon** It's just one more reason for me to work toward having them here. Next year, maybe?

  6. All the snow on the ground this morning makes me really glad that I don't have livestock to take care of today. One day we will settle into a routine that will allow some energy for these gentle creatures. Until then, I'll continue to build gardens ... with the eventual goal of having alpacas as part of the plan.
